London-based gold explorer HPD awarded more permits
28 October 2004 - The London-based gold exploration company HPD New Zealand Ltd has recently acquired four more exploration permits and two propsecting permits with its focus remaining largely on the Otago and Southland prospects.
Three of the exploration permits are in Central Otago. EP 40682 is a 1240 ha permit near Omakau. EP 40702, also near Omakau, and just to south of 40682, has an area of 8448 ha.
A third Otago permit, EP 40710, lies overs 3219 ha near Hyde and adjoins the Hyde-Macraes shear zone north-west of the Macraes gold mine.
The fourth new exploration permit, EP 40667, over 595 ha is in the western Bay of Plenty, over the historic Muirs Reef mine south of Te Puke.
In addition HPD has been awarded a large prospecting permit 39261 covering 1077 sq km over a substantial part of Otago from just north of Balclutha in south Otago to north of Alexandra.
Another large prospecting permit, PP 39259, has also been awarded for a 461 sq km area of northern Southland between the two historical goldfields of Waikaia and Nokomai.
The company says it is looking for gold in three regions. The first, considered to have the most potential at this stage, is in the central Otago region where significant historical workings exist but little contemporary exploration has been undertaken. The second is in the North Island where a significant land holding has been acquired in the vicinity of the Waihi gold mine and the third area is located in the Marlborough district of the South Island.
