Solid Energy obtains three more coal exploration permits
28 October 2004 - Coal producer Solid Energy has been awarded three more coal exploration permits in South Canterbury, Buller and the Waikato.
As part of its current large scale exploration programme, the Christchurch-based company has now acquired a total of eight exploration permits and 12 prospecting permits within the past 12 months.
The Waikato permit EP 40700 covers a 98 hectare area over northern Huntly.
The Buller permit EP 40647 is a 8529 hectare area to the west, south and east of Westport.
The third exploration permit EP 40673 is a 1614 hectare area at Waihao near Waimate in South Canterbury.
Solid Energy has also been awarded a mining permit MP 41810, a 30.5 hectare extension to its large opencast Stockton mine near Westport.
