Updated well tables show very high level of drilling in 2004
27 October 2004 - Twenty two oil and gas wells have been drilled in New Zealand so far in 2004 with another seven wells planned before the end of the year, updated Crown Minerals drilling tables show.
Details of planned wells and results of wells drilled so far in 2004 are set out in updated well drilling tables now on the petroleum website (see link below).
The exploration industry drilling activity will almost double the 17 wells drilled in 2003 and could exceed the record of 28 wells drilled back in 1988.
The 2004 well table shows that 8 of the 20 wells completed so far this year have reported good oil or gas shows while other wells are still testing. Twelve of the 22 wells spudded to date have been exploration wells, the others being appraisal or development wells. All seven offshore wells were exploration wells.
