Australian Company Clough Wins $180m Maari Platform Contract

16 January 2006 - Australian-based engineering and construction firm Clough wins NZ$180 million contract for "innovative" Maari offshore platform.

Clough said that it would be performing all engineering, procurement, construction and installation activities related to the platform in a contract worth approximately A$170 million (about NZ$180 million).

Clough said it had received a letter of intent from Maari operator OMV New Zealand Ltd, on behalf of the Maari joint venture and negotiation of the final agreement will be completed within one month.

The innovative design is based on the self-elevating DrillAce platform concept successfully implemented by Clough in Australia last year, the company said.

David Singleton, CEO and managing director of Clough said, “Clough is further developing an offshore platform concept that is uniquely different from conventional techniques, and that is particularly well suited to remote locations. The DrillAce is proving to be cost effective and offers a lower risk solution to clients who require rapid installation without the need for large offshore construction vessels.”

The Maari field is approximately 80 km south east of the Taranaki coast, in 100 m water depth.

The field development will consist of a wellhead platform tied back to a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel moored nearby.

Clough said it was selected for this project after a six-month client-funded design competition. The project will commence immediately with practical completion expected in 2008.

The Clough Group is one of Australia's largest multidisciplinary engineering, construction, and asset management group's active in the international oil and gas, minerals, infrastructure, and property industries. It has 5000 staff and operates in Asia, the Middle East, and in deepwater offshore provinces in other parts of the world.
