Former Newmont Australia Head John Dow on Glass Earth Board
29 March 2006 - Glass Earth appoints former Newmont Australia managing director John Dow to its board.
Wellington-based gold exploration company Glass Earth Ltd has appointed former chairman and managing director of Newmont Australia John Dow to its board.
Glenn Laing, president of Glass Earth said, in an announcement to the Toronto Stock Exchange, that Glass Earth is delighted that Mr Dow will join its board given his vast experience encompassing exploration, management and strategic thinking in the gold industry.
Mr Dow, a New Zealander, has relocated to Nelson in the South Island following his retirement from Newmont.
Mr Laing said his residency in New Zealand and proximity to Glass Earth’s exploration portfolio is an obvious plus. Mr Dow will assume the chairmanship of the Glass Earth's audit committee.
Mr Dow is a geologist with over 38 years international experience. He joined Newmont Australia in 1978 as exploration manager for Western Australia and subsequently worked with Newmont in Southeast Asia, USA and Latin America. He returned to Australia in 2002 to head up Newmont's operations following its takeover of Normandy Mining. This included oversight of the Martha gold mine operations in the North Island.
Mr Dow is a director of the AusIMM and is the current president of the Society of Economic Geologists.
Glass Earth is exploring numerous epithermal gold targets in the Taupo-Coromandel volcanic zone in central North Island and searching for a “Martha Mine” style of mineralisation. After extensive geophysical surveying in the region it has been granted six new exploration permits.
Recent purchase of the extensive exploration interests of London-based HPD New Zealand has made Glass Earth one of the larger New Zealand gold exploration companies.
