Kupe gas project awards Technip Oceania preferred tender status.

The Kupe gas project has awarded ‘preferred tender’ status to Technip Oceania Pty Ltd for the construction of the Kupe onshore gas production station in south Taranaki.

Origin Energy Resources (Kupe) Ltd, the operator of the Kupe project, said the appointment of Technip as preferred tender will enable more detailed discussions to take place as required to finalise commercial arrangements.

Origin Energy's executive general manager for major development projects, Andrew Stock, said the appointment was an important step towards reaching a final investment decision on the project.

Based in Perth, Western Australia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Technip Oceania provides engineering and construction management services in the Asia Pacific region.

Origin Energy said the joint venture partners continue to evaluate bids for the offshore components of the project.

The Kupe JV is yet to make a final investment decision on the project. That decision remains timed for the first half of 2006. The project schedule calls for commercial gas and liquids production to commence during 2008.

The Kupe partners are: Origin Energy, 50%; Genesis Energy. 31%; New Zealand Oil & Gas Ltd, 15%; and Mitsui E&P New Zealand Ltd; 4%.
