Alloy engages mineral sands specialist for Barrytown project

30 March 2010 - Perth-based mineral explorer, Alloy Resources Ltd, which is exploring the Barrytown mineral sands prospect onshore north of Greymouth on the West Coast says the target is estimated to contain approximately 80 -100 million tonnes @ 11 – 13% ilmenite.

Alloy said the Barrytown prospect has a very high targeted ilmenite content compared to other deposits in production or being reviewed for development.

Alloy was granted a five year Exploration Permit (EP 51803) late last year over the 1,352 ha area about 28 km north of Greymouth on a coastal lowland strip about 17 km long and up to 1.5 km wide.

A scoping study which will include mining, beneficiation and marketing of the various products is being undertaken.

Alloy engaged a geological consultant company with expertise in evaluation of mineral sands to review the extensive open file data on the Barrytown mineral sands.

Exploration of the sands were carried out between 1966 to 1990 and included bulk sampling results and over 1,400 drill holes undertaken during this period. A pilot scale wet concentrator and dry plant was built on site.

Previous explorers in the area included Carpentaria, North, Rio Tinto and most recently NZ Gold.

Alloy Resources said its initial plan is to assess whether a JORC compliant resource can be generated from the prospect and metallurgical recovery improved.
