16 April 2010 - A second multi million dollar workover programme has begun work on the Maui A platform on the offshore Maui gas and condensate field and will continue throughout 2010.

Spokeperson for Maui operator Shell Todd Oil Services, Jacqueline Baker said that a workover programme has now begun on the Maui A section of the field using a hydraulic workover unit, a smaller lightweight rig providing cost advantages over conventional drilling operations.

STOS has completed a similar work programme using the same rig from the Maui B platform.

STOS understands that this is the first time in the Asia Pacific region that a hydraulic unit has been used instead of a conventional drilling rig.

The Maui field, which has been New Zealand’s largest gas and condensate producer, is in its 31st year of production.

The Maui workover drill programme aims to maximise returns for the field’s joint venture owners: Shell 83.75%, OMV NZ 10% and Todd Energy 6.25%.
