Maari platform workover unit has busy programme ahead

The tasks will include equipping of the long MN1 well for production which will access the nearby Manaia structure, Maari partner Horizon Oil said in its March quarter report.
The workover unit will also undertake repair of the downhole pumps in the MR3 and MR5 wells in the main Moki zone in the Maari field, which would allow the wells to be returned to production.
The rig will also carry out additional perforations on two of the water injector wells to increase water injection into the Moki zone.
Horizon said the MR9 well into the M2A sandstone, approximately 50 m above the main Moki sands, was put on test production in early March and initially flowed at an estimated rate of 4,000 barrels of oil per day.
The M2A oil was assayed and confirmed to have similar properties to the crude produced from the main Moki zone. This made the M2A oil acceptable to be mixed with the Moki crude for marketing.
Subsurface evaluation and reservoir modelling of the Moki and M2A reservoirs at Maari and the Manaia Mangahewa zone are continuing. Production history and subsequent reservoir simulation, as well as results from the drilling programme, will be incorporated to allow estimates to be made of recoverable reserves for each zone in the second half of 2010, Horizon said.
Planning has begun to produce a development scheme designed to exploit all the commercially viable oil and gas accumulations within the “greater Maari” complex, Horizon said.
The Maari joint venture has applied for an extension of the Maari petroleum mining permit to encompass the Manaia.
During the quarter, Horizon Oil’s working interest share of production from Maari field was 142,105 barrels of oil. Cumulative oil production from the field through to 28 April 2010 was 7.6 million barrels.
Horizon said that a 204 sq km 3D seismic survey in the Matariki permit (PEP 51313) by the Reflect Geophysical vessel Reflect Resolution was over one third complete at the end of April.
