The existing mineral reservation has also been divided into two separate, bordering reserves.

Minerals permits (other than petroleum) will not be granted or extended in the area specified in the Schedule of the Reserve Notice.

This part of the Kermadec/Colville Arcs is thought to contain significant mineral potential. Extending the reservation is considered necessary to better meet the purposes of the Crown Minerals Act 1991.

This notice is made under section 28A of the Crown Minerals Act 1991, whereby the Minister of Energy and Resources may declare that permits will not be granted in respect of specified land during a specified period if he or she believes the declaration is necessary to better meet the purpose of the Act.
