Technical reporting

This page summarises what a permit holder needs to do to comply with their obligations to provide technical reports to us. It also lets you know where you can get extra information.

In return for the rights to prospect, explore or mine Crown-owned minerals given by your permit, every permit holder is required to provide the Crown with information about the minerals in their permit area.

This information comes from the records and reports that are created for prospecting, exploration or mining activities developed under your permit. They may relate directly to your work programme obligations, or they may be created as a result of other activities, such as mining feasibility studies.

You must provide these reports to us no later than 40 working days after the start of the permit year. The permit year begins on the anniversary of the date your permit was granted.

There’s specific information that you need to give to us depending on what type of report it is.

Digital data submission standards and templates

The Crown Minerals Act 1991 allows us to ask for data and reports to be sent to us in a prescribed format so that we can use the data more easily. We have developed reporting guidelines so that permit holders know what formats we will accept. We also have a template for a technical report cover sheet and other digital data submission standards templates:
