We are committed to proactively engaging with iwi and hapū, local authorities, and communities, about the development of oil, gas and minerals resources in areas of interest.
Under the Crown Minerals Act and the minerals programmes for petroleum and minerals, we consult with all relevant iwi and hapū in relation to certain permit activity.
How the government manages the industry
Multiple government agencies, together with regional and district councils, share the responsibility for regulating petroleum and minerals activities in New Zealand. This activity is carefully managed at every step.
