Agreement signed for demobilisation of FPSO Umuroa from Tui Oil Field
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has signed an agreement with BW Umuroa Pte. Ltd (BWU), the owner and operator of the FPSO Umuroa, to demobilise and disconnect the vessel from the Tui Oil Field.
Under the terms of the demobilisation agreement with BWU, the costs of the disconnection and demobilisation of the FPSO Umuroa will be covered by MBIE.
“The agreement will allow the first phase of the decommissioning of the Tui Oil Field to commence which will see the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel Umuroa disconnect from the oil field and depart,” said Chris Bunny, Deputy Chief Executive, Building, Resources and Markets.
“Under the agreement, MBIE will reimburse BWU for actual costs associated with the demobilisation. The work is expected to be completed during summer 2020/2021.”
MBIE, on behalf of the Crown, is responsible for the decommissioning of the Tui Oil Field after the liquidation and receivership of Tamarind Taranaki Ltd. The Crown is committed to ensuring that the field is decommissioned safely in accordance with the law and good industry practice.
A dedicated Tui Project team, within MBIE’s Energy and Resources Markets branch, is planning and preparing for the subsequent phases of full decommissioning of the Tui Oil Field.
