Annual summary reports

Annual summary reports are due 31 March each year. A report needs to be submitted for every permit that was in force during the previous calendar year, even if no activity took place.

A calendar year is 1 January to 31 December. If a permit expires, is revoked, surrendered or relinquished the annual report is for the period 1 January to the date the permit ceases.

Annual summary reports (ASRs) give us information about how the permit is being used and shows whether you are complying with your work programme. These reports also give us valuable information about New Zealand’s minerals.

To file your ASRs you should use the online permitting system (OPS). The online permitting system is set up to ask for the information we need from you for you to comply with the requirements. You need to fill in all of the form as accurately as possible. If you are unsure what you need to do, contact us for help.

There are different reporting requirements depending on whether you have a Tier 1 or a Tier 2 permit and whether you have a prospecting, exploration or mining permit. The OPS only requires you to provide what you need to depending on the tier and type of permit you have. The OPS also has help text to guide you through the process of completing your ASR.

More guidance for each Tier is available in the links below. See your permit certificate to work out which Tier your permit is.
