New Kermadec mineral reservation 2026-2028
A new mineral reservation over the Kermadec Arc has been declared for 2 years.
A new mineral reservation over the Kermadec Arc has been declared for 2 years continuing restrictions on mineral permitting in the area.
The new reservation takes effect from 5 January 2026 to 4 January 2028.
The reservation means that prospecting, exploration, and mining permits for minerals other than petroleum will not be granted or extended in relation to this area.
This notice is made under section 28A(1) of the Crown Minerals Act 1991, whereby the Minister for Resources may declare that permits will not be granted or extended in respect of specified land during a specified period if he or she believes the declaration is necessary to better meet the purpose of the Act.
Petroleum permits remain available to be applied for in this area.
